Waitin' Around

oil on linen
40 x 48 in.
46 x 54 in. (framed)
An unhurried and effortlessly cool cowboy is alone in the vast valley with his horse. What are they waitin’ around for? The clouds are dancing in the sky while the golden setting light casts long shadows on the dry ground. The cowboy's pose with his chin resting in his hand and leg wrapped around the saddle horn was the initial spark for this painting. Then the details like the wear on the soles of his boots and the pattern of his shirt drew me in further. I don’t think I will ever tire of painting the magnificent musculature and shiny coats of horses, as well as taking particular enjoyment at trying to capture the strength and grace in their powerful legs.
