This past summer my wife, Rose Marie, and I went to New Mexico and visited the Albuquerque Museum of Fine Art, where we saw a great show, Another World: The Transcendental Painting Group. Some of the highlights of the show were works by Agnes Pelton and Raymond Jonson. Spiritual abstraction is a short description of transcendental painting. A Slice in Time is strongly influenced by that movement, which started in the latter part of the 1920s. This piece evolved from two studies, the first one quite different from the final painting. Each step of the way was taken to refine the message.
