Mary Oliver: “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”
This is for my sister Beth, one of my muses of life’s potential—that intangible gift that resides in the center of our being to discover our potential and know we belong. Throughout history, the vessel has been a symbol of abundance, holding something carried, stored, or cherished. Muses seem to appear when we are most relaxed and ready to receive them. The elongated legs symbolize grounding. The bas-relief on this vessel uses a 360-degree view; this makes the work appear pliable, malleable, and flexible as a surface to tell a story of sculptural relief in art. The lid has a composition of horses’ legs running at full speed in a race.
