| Surrounded by mountains, lakes, and streams in her Wyoming and Canadian Lake Country studios, Sandy Scott is an avid outdoorswoman, a licensed pilot, and lives the life she depicts. Trained at the Kansas City Art Institute, early in life she worked as an animation background artist for the motion picture industry. A Fellow of the National Sculpture Society, she has won many awards for sculpture and etchings and her works are in important collections and museums, including Brookgreen Gardens, the Gilcrease Museum, the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Museum, the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, the National Museum of Wildlife Art, and the R. W. Norton Museum. In 2014, Scott received the Legacy Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Briscoe Museum. Her major awards from the National Sculpture Society include the 2020 Marcel Jovine President’s Prize for her sculpture Flightless Tondo; the 2015 and 2017 Marilyn Newmark Memorial Award for realistic sculpture in the classical tradition, and the 2016 Agop Agopoff Memorial Prize for classical sculpture. She also received the Society of Animal Artists’ Award of Excellence in 2016. Scott was recently honored with a retrospective that was exhibited at several museums, including Brookgreen Gardens, Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, and the National Museum of Wildlife Art, Jackson, Wyoming. The retrospective featured work from the past 50 years of her professional career.
