Golden Calf

The desert offers a special kind of light, especially just before nightfall. It’s a dash for the deepest color, where shadows frame the shapes of my subject in raking light before it vanishes. This longhorn calf is just one of many I have painted, since they are in my peripheral vision most of the time. But my favorite time to capture them is when the sun is setting.
