I find Charles M. Russell paintings and sculptures breathe life into the story of the West. His ability to capture the spirit of the West sets him apart from so many. I wanted to pay honor to his legacy by painting from a famous black-and-white photo taken of him on a camping trip in the outdoors of Montana in 1909. I hope it puts a spotlight on him for new fans to find meaning in his work.
