A Song for the Evening

acrylic/mixed media on canvas
36 x 48 in.
37.5 x 49.5 in. (framed)
A Song for the Evening can depict a chief who is partaking in a ceremony before a buffalo hunt, calling for the buffalo to appear and a successful, safe hunt; or he can be blessing the tribe in evening prayers, usually in summer after a large communal dinner; or he can be singing for a birth or wedding celebration, or a funeral. At any communal gathering, a singer will open ceremonies.
