| From early on in his life, Kyle Polzin has been inspired by his south Texas surroundings. Born on January 16, 1974, in Cuero, Texas, Polzin spent his childhood hunting and exploring the countryside near his home. He helped care for the horses that his grandfather kept, and fished the waters along the Texas coast with his friends and family, all while building his skills as an artist. Both of Polzin’s grandfathers were skilled carpenters, and his father worked as draftsman and freelance artist. Their guidance enabled him to hone his own creative skills. Shortly after high school he attended a workshop with Texas painter Dalhart Windberg, where he learned the technique that would allow him to paint the highly detailed, realistic style that you see in his still-life paintings today. Since he began painting full time in 2000, Polzin’s paintings have won several major awards including the Prix de West Great American Cowboy Award, the Prix de West Frederick Remington Award, and in 2022, the Prix de West Purchase Award. At the Autry Museum’s Masters, he won Spirit of the West Award for three consecutive years (2012–2014) and in 2020 was awarded the Masters Best in Show. Polzin currently lives in Austin, Texas, with his wife, Leigh, and their two daughters. Kyle Polzin is represented by Legacy Gallery, Scottsdale, Arizona, and Santa Fe, New Mexico.
