Many breeds of cow dogs are used to work the cattle during roundups on ranches in the West, and they are sometimes the ranch owner’s pets. These well-trained animals are valuable and appreciated by the cowboys as they share the work of keeping the herd together. My rancher friends and I, who work cattle in the high Arizona desert, often give our favorite cow dogs a well-deserved rest at the end of a long, hot day. Personally carrying one of the tired cow dogs is one of my great memories from the times I’ve helped with roundup and branding. This happy, relaxed dog is having His Day.
